Extracting Narratives is an artistic program that draws attention to shifting relations found in daily life and varied stories told through the painted image, sculptural objects and photography.
Work by contemporary painters Jeroen Witvliet (All Tomorrow’s Parties) and Neil McClelland (The Perfect Nowhere) is featured in CVAG’s contemporary gallery.
Source Material is an assemblage of photographs and sculptural objects featured in CVAG’s Community Space. Classes include: Emily Carr University of Art and Design visual arts classes; North Island College first and second year sculpture classes; North Island College first year ceramics classes; and alumni from NIC/ECUAD.
As the viewer wanders between the gallery spaces, narratives can be extracted and rearranged into new stories. By paying close attention to objects, architecture, photographic images and stories, inspiration can be derived.
A community Make Art Project invites participation throughout the run of the exhibition, beginning with an artist-led make event on January 21.
