Fierce Transformation – Art Opening

OPENING CELEBRATION + ARTIST RECEPTION

The Comox Valley Art Gallery and Wachiay Studio are excited to present an exhibition of screen prints created during the 2025 Wachiay Residency series.

On display in CVAG’s Community Gallery, this exhibition features works by the selected artists from BC and Canada:

  • Jessie Everson from K’ómoks First Nation and Atheana Picha from Richmond (Coast Salish/Kwantlen First Nation);
  • Sham Sandhu and Carly Ball from Cumberland;
  • Chantey Dayal from Duncan and Leya Tess from Denman Island;
  • Hannah Gelderman and Madeleine Salomons from Edmonton; and
  • Heather Curtis from Comox Valley (Michisaagiig of Rice Lake, Hiawatha Nation) and Hjalmer Wenstob from Ucluelet (Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation). Hjalmer’s partner Annika Benoit-Jansson also helped make these prints.

We invite you to join us for the opening at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 1, at CVAG. During this event, the community will have an opportunity to engage in an on-demand screen printing demonstration.


The Comox Valley Art Gallery collaborates with community partners to support professional development and creative research through presentation and artist residency opportunities. During the Wachiay Residency series, the artists were hosted at the CVAG Next Door Artist Residence.


The Comox Valley Art Gallery is committed to creating safer spaces where everyone can participate.

All ages are welcome.

CVAG spaces are accessible. Efforts are made to make presented programming contents available to all by using approachable audio and visual technologies to aid in experience, way finding signage. Staff are available to answer any questions and to provide orientation to the presentation and gallery spaces.

Programs are barrier-free (no cost). DONATIONS are appreciated and contribute to ongoing community interactive programming.

PUBLIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS: we ask that visitors choose not to visit if they are experiencing symptoms of colds and flus.

Hand sanitation dispensers are available at CVAG. Wearing a mask is at the discretion of the visitor.
