Transcendent Thresholds – Exhibition Celebration

January 24 2026 / 1:00pm - 5:00pm

OPENING RECEPTION + ARTIST CONVERSATION

Join us at the Comox Valley Art Gallery for the opening of a new convergent program — Transcendent Thresholds

Two new exhibitions will open at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 24: Aeon of the Black Sun by ALEX COMA and Naguala by CLAUDIA MEDINA with sound composition by SOPHIA SANFORD.

The artists will be present for a talk and Q&A with the community, followed by a public reception. Visitors will have the opportunity to view and learn about the works on exhibition while enjoying some hospitality!

TRANSCENDENT THRESHOLDS

The convergent program Transcendent Thresholds draws on ways of knowing that understand change as cyclical, porous, and interconnected. Immersive video and sound experiences, sensorial installations, and multi-media artworks trace states of becoming shaped by memory, ritual, and relational ways of knowing.

Aeon of the Black Sun | Alex Coma | January 24 – March 14, 2026 | Explores the essential truths and enduring resonances of mythologies rooted in ancient feminine archetype — the Goddess Nuit

Naguala | Claudia Medina + Sophia Sanford | January 24 – March 14, 2026 | Naguala is rooted in teachings that go beyond masculine/feminine archetypes, remembering the human as embedded within ongoing transformations and entanglements with macro and micro worlds

The Comox Valley Art Gallery is committed to creating safer spaces where everyone can participate.
