The Shape of Care – Artist Talk with Taryn Goodwin

August 16 2025 / 1:00pm - 3:00pm

ARTIST TALK WITH TARYN GOODWIN

The Comox Valley Art Gallery will host a special artist talk with Taryn Goodwin on Saturday, August 16, from 1:00 – 3:00pm, inviting the community into a powerful conversation about art, care, and collective connection.

Goodwin, a local neurodivergent and disabled social practice artist, is known for creating immersive and relational work that places care at the center. Through slowness, rest, adaptability, and deep listening, Goodwin’s work challenges conventional art-making methods. Their current exhibition, The Shape of Care, transforms the gallery space into a living, responsive environment shaped by community participation and collaboration.

The talk will be conversational in nature, offering visitors a chance to learn more about the practice behind The Shape of Care, and to reflect on how care can take shape in our own lives and communities.

All are welcome. Admission is free, and accessibility supports will be available.

The Comox Valley Art Gallery is committed to creating spaces where everyone is welcome and can participate.

CVAG spaces are accessible.

Programs are barrier-free (no cost). DONATIONS are appreciated and contribute to ongoing community interactive programming.

CVAG strives to reach all and to that end offers, programming descriptions in print, descriptive recordings, on demand videos, and through in-person welcoming orientation. When it can, CVAG offers materials in languages other than English.

PUBLIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS: we ask that visitors choose not to visit if they are experiencing symptoms of colds and flus. Hand sanitation dispensers are available at CVAG. Wearing a mask is at the discretion of the visitor.
