Immersed • RETURN TO WATER 2025 – Art Opening with Artist Talks

April 12 2025 / 1:00pm - 5:00pm

ART OPENING with ARTIST TALKS – Free | All Ages | Public Event

You’re invited to the art opening for Immersed • RETURN TO WATER 2025 on Saturday, April 12!

This program marks the gallery’s fifth year of inviting visitors to programming and community activations that explore the enduring relationship we have with this watery region — with presentations by Josephine Anderson and Claire Sanford; Nettie Wild, Betsy Carson, Rae Hull, and Michael Brockington; and Sarah Crawley with community participants.

Working in alternative lens-based practices, these artists tell the story of the geological and ecological deep time of this watery world. Time capture imagery, interactive installations, animation, sound design, video, and 3D virtual reality immerse the viewer in sensorial encounters.

ALL ARE WELCOME to attend the free opening day event at CVAG. Starting at 1:00pm, the artists will speak about their work. Before and after the talks, gallery visitors are invited to participate in the conversation by creating water-themed poems on the Lifelong Learning Centre’s Magnetic Poetry Board, which will be temporarily on-site.

NOTE: immersive virtual reality experiences are not recommended for young children. All children under ten years of age must be accompanied by an adult. The program also offers alternative non-VR experiences for visitors to enjoy.

The Comox Valley Art Gallery is committed to creating spaces where everyone can participate.

CVAG spaces are accessible.

Programs are barrier-free (no cost). DONATIONS are appreciated and contribute to ongoing community interactive programming.

CVAG strives to reach all and to that end offers, programming descriptions in print, descriptive recordings, on demand videos, and through in-person welcoming orientation. When it can, CVAG offers materials in languages other than English.

PUBLIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS: we ask that visitors choose not to visit if they are experiencing symptoms of colds and flus.

Hand sanitation dispensers are available at CVAG. Wearing a mask is at the discretion of the visitor.
