The CVAG Film Series features a selection of films from the Toronto International Film Festival Circuit. CVAG staff and volunteers organize the film series, and proceeds go towards our artistic programming.
Films screen at 5:00pm on Wednesdays at Landmark Cinemas (2655 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay). Doors open at 4:30pm.
THE COURAGEOUS
Jasmin Gordon’s poignant and impeccably crafted feature film debut rattles our perceptions of motherhood and moral integrity. Living in an idyllic town in the stunning Valais region of Switzerland, 40-year-old Jule (Ophélia Kolb) is a single mother dreaming of a stable existence for her young children, who have learned to take care of one another as their mom, determined to keep her chin up, employs increasingly creative and fantastical ways to maintain appearances. The film’s intimate and emotionally complex script introduces us to the kind of family who, though often hidden, are present in every society, and invites the viewer to set aside judgments and step into someone else’s shoes.

NOTES: If you don’t have an advance ticket, it may be possible to purchase a ticket (cash only, $19) on-site at the theatre, but only if there are still seats available. Cash ticket sales are only available 30 minutes before the film starts. Cash tickets will be sold on a first come – first served basis. Most of our films sell out; to avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance.
Seating at Landmark Cinemas is first come – first served. Please do not save seats for multiple people. There is no seating after 5:00pm.
