CVAG at Comox Valley Exhibition

August 26 2023 / 10:00am - 5:30pm

COMOX VALLEY EXHIBITION 2023

Gallery interns will be at the Comox Valley Exhibition with CVAG’s Summer 2023 STREAM group. They will be onsite at the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds (Headquarters Rd., Courtenay) from 10AM – 5:30PM on Saturday, August 26.

At CVEX, the whole CVAG team (interns + STREAM students) will be collaborating on robotics builds and coding experiments. The public is invited to observe these demonstrations and ask questions. The STREAM group will be working on a LEGO build of the Vancouver Island Regional Library in Courtenay (their 1st build was a model of the art gallery).

For those who want to try hands-on experimenting, check out CVAG’s Explorative Make Art Series.

CVAG will be open on Saturday from 10am – 5pm for visiting the current installations. Make Art activities will be taking place at CVAG Plaza and inside the gallery. Visits to CVAG are free.

STREAM INCUBATOR | SUMMER 2023

STREAM stands for Science, Technology, Robotics, Electronics, Arts + Mathematics. The STREAM Incubator is an inquiry-based, hands-on learning program for youth, ages 10 – 15, facilitated at CVAG by educator Stew Savard.

After completing their LEGO build of the newly-renovated gallery in 2022, the summer STREAM participants are now building a LEGO model of the Vancouver Island Regional Library in Courtenay.

They are also continuing their work with EV3 and VEX V5 robotics. Inspired by the REPOSITORIES SERIES by Reva Stone, which is currently presented at CVAG as part of the exhibition Together Apart | Under One Roof, the STREAM students have initiated Imagining + Exploring Robot Behaviours. As part of the Explorative Make Art Series this summer, CVAG and the STREAM students invite the community to join them in experiments using old and new technologies to create robots that produce drawings, make sounds, have sensor responses and new behaviours.
