ANCESTRAL ECHOES: AN INTERGENERATIONAL STORYTELLING PROJECT
Ancestral Echoes is a podcast education program that partners Elders with young people in the Comox Valley to engage in the tradition of oral story-telling while producing a recorded podcast.
The purpose of this program is to create a space where Elders can work with local youth engaging in an intergenerational exchange that will provide more perspective, awareness, and understanding of Elder’s voices and stories of the living past to new generations. In exchange, our young people can be active listeners and ask meaningful/thoughtful questions while learning leadership skills as the host of a podcast.
SEASON 2 | LISTENING STATION
Season 2 of Ancestral Echoes, produced by Comox Valley Arts in collaboration with the Immigrant Welcome Centre, connects elders and youth through immigration stories. Tune in to CVOX radio every Tuesday + Thursday at 3:00pm for new episodes this winter.
CVAG is grateful to partner with Ancestral Echoes to allow gallery visitors to listen to a selection of these stories at CVAG alongside the group exhibition NO BURDEN, which explores the complex topic of foregrounding cultural identity in art. With the incredible cultural exchanges and insightful, vulnerable explorations in each episode of Season 2, the podcast will provide a valuable and engaging addition to the exhibition.
Opening in early February, the listening station will be located in CVAG’s Reception Hub. Relax and immerse yourself in your chosen episode.
The Comox Valley Art Gallery is committed to creating spaces where everyone can participate.
CVAG spaces are accessible.
Programs are barrier-free (no cost). DONATIONS are appreciated and contribute to ongoing community interactive programming.
CVAG strives to reach all and to that end offers, programming descriptions in print, descriptive recordings, on demand videos, and through in-person welcoming orientation. When it can, CVAG offers materials in languages other than English.
PUBLIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS: we ask that visitors choose not to visit if they are experiencing symptoms of colds and flus.
Hand sanitation dispensers are available at CVAG. Wearing a mask is at the discretion of the visitor.
