OPENING CELEBRATION + PERFORMANCE
Join us at the Comox Valley Art Gallery at 1:00pm on April 4, for the opening of Pas-à-pas; not intent on arriving, a multidisciplinary meditation on mourning and memory by visual artist SD Holman with pianist Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa.
During the reception on Saturday, SD Holman and Paul Wong will share words and Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa will perform the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach.
This event is an opportunity for the community to engage with our featured artists and experience a live grand piano performance while viewing the exhibition for the first time.
Everyone is welcome, and hospitality will be provided.
NOTE: Attendees will be directed across the street to the Vancouver Island Regional Library (Courtenay) for the initial talks, as gallery spaces will not have the capacity to fit chairs around the installed art.
To compliment the exhibition, the library will also curate a themed display of related library materials.
CVAG is grateful for the special sponsorship that supports making this program possible: The McGrane-Pearson Endowment Fund, held at Vancouver Foundation.
The piano used in this performance is courtesy of Gladys Schmidt.
The Comox Valley Art Gallery is committed to creating safer spaces where everyone can participate.
All ages are welcome.
CVAG spaces are accessible. Efforts are made to make presented programming contents available to all by using approachable audio and visual technologies to aid in experience and wayfinding. Staff are available to answer any questions and to provide orientation to the presentation and gallery spaces.
Programs are barrier-free (no cost). DONATIONS are appreciated and contribute to ongoing community interactive programming.
PUBLIC HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS: we ask that visitors choose not to visit if they are experiencing symptoms of colds and flus.
Hand sanitation dispensers are available at CVAG. Wearing a mask is at the discretion of the visitor.
