The CVAG Film Series features a selection of films from the Toronto International Film Festival Circuit. CVAG staff and volunteers organize the film series, and proceeds go towards our artistic programming.
Films screen at 5:00pm on Wednesdays at Landmark Cinemas (2655 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay). Doors open at 4:30pm.
SANTOSH
Filmmaker Sandhya Suri’s searing narrative debut follows a young housewife (Shahana Goswami) widowed after her police constable husband is killed on the job. Through a government initiative, she is trained to take his place in an overwhelmingly male police station in rural Northern India. Suri blends a journalistic attention to procedural detail — expertly building tension as evidence and characters are revealed — with an empathetic rendering of Santosh’s internal conflicts. She seeks professional advancement and respect from her peers while clinging to ethics in a system that prioritizes suspect confessions and convictions by any means.

Cash ticket sales are only available 30 minutes before the film starts. Cash tickets will be sold on a first come – first served basis. Most of our films sell out; to avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance.
