By a Thread – E-Program / Printed Matter
The exhibition By a Thread showcases artwork produced by the wide-ranging membership of the Comox Valley Community Arts Council and the Comox Valley Art Gallery. The exhibition includes work by emerging, mid-career and established cultural workers, who have all responded to theme of (hanging) By a Thread.
The response to our call for submissions (we received 120 artworks) was overwhelming. The work includes fibre-based art, visual art, video, interactive media, print + written word, performance and site installation. The work involves traditional, experimental and hybrid creative approaches.
The result is an exhibit that weaves together a vast array of interpretations, processes, concepts and media. As diverse as the work is, it is linked by a common theme.
(hanging) By a Thread evokes subjective and collective images such as risk, vulnerability, play, resilience, innovation, uncertainty, reinvention, adaptation, hope and alternative perspectives. Terry Helwig, Founder of The Thread Project, a global work created in response to 9/11, states: Some say our world is hanging by a thread. I say – a thread is all we need.
