WITHOUT PROMPTING CREATIVE RESIDENCY
Making sense of my past and present.
Without Prompting is a creative residency which runs in conjunction with the exhibition Familiars, and seeks to engage viewers in CVAG’s Gather:Place. The exhibition Familiars began with a zine (DIY publication), Without Prompting will continue this thread by further exploring zine-based art. Without Prompting will see the production of a longer format zine dealing with themes of loss, while simultaneously engaging viewers in the process of art making. Working with pen, ink, brush, scissors, glue, and photocopier, I will encourage participants to take control of their stories, instead of their stories controlling them.
Without Prompting has three aspects which will function concurrently: the creation of new a new zine, the running of DIY publication related workshops, and the facilitation of conversations within Gather:Place. Where possible, I seek to listen to the audience and assist in foraging an understanding between feelings and the art that springs from those feelings.
Sometimes the best way to confront our thoughts is to lay them out, on a page, in black-and-white.
