Special Exhibition: “The Merkin & Codpiece Show” CVAG Trivia Night

Artist Talk by Kitty Blandy
10th Biennial Art Auction CVAG AGM 2008

Trivia Night at the Gallery

So you think you know everything there is to know about what might not be important to know? Comox Valley Art Gallery invites you to come out for a fun filled and hilarious night of trivial pursuit on Friday May 23 at 7pm.

What is a trivia night and how does it work? Similar to the popular board game played at home, series of questions are asked and the goal is to get the most questions correct. At a trivia night, one person called the Quiz Master is chosen ahead of time to ask all the questions, rather than everyone taking turns. It keeps things running more smoothly. Also in this case, instead of individuals competing, teams of 8 people work together, putting their efforts in to agree on one answer per question. The team with the most number of correct questions wins the main prize.  The teams will be competing for prizes and (mostly) glory!  CVAG will be able to register 10 teams.

Local architect Martin Hagarty and CVAG’s director/curator Tony Martin will cook up a feast of questions; topics will range from art to sports, entertainment, history, popular culture, animals and more! With Quiz Master Martin at the helm and Quiz Judge Tony at his side, it is sure to be an entertaining evening. There will also be a cash bar and some light refreshments.

Teams will consist of 8 persons;
cost is $10 per person.
Individuals may also register and will be assigned to a team. If you would like to register a team or donate a small prize please contact Anh at 338-6211. Doors open at 6.30pm for this event.

Artist Talk by Kitty Blandy
Date: Friday, May 16
Time: 1:00 pm
Location: CVAG Public Gallery

Kitty Blandy is currently showing her work in the Public Gallery with Jude Griebel, in their exhibition SHIFTING FIGURES.

Conventional studies of the human form involve a strong knowledge of the body’slimitations. Kitty’s recent work has led her beyond these limitations to explore imaginary narratives, inaccessible to her earlier, more conventional work.

Certain works merge bodies completely, including detailed human heads on dog bodies, that seem to be aware of their awkward and humiliating circumstances. In our art practices painting is relevant to the work specifically; as an editing processinvolving the tracing of mental images; in the addition and subtraction of materials and inthe culmination of content and material intent.
